This week, let's clean and inspect your gutters and downspouts to protect your home from water damage. This is one of those jobs where some professional help may be needed.

Remember to be careful when approaching heights (like second story gutters) and only tackle what you're capable of without risking injury. If you decide to hire help, make sure they carry insurance—it's a risk for them, too.

Why is this important? Clogged gutters and downspouts can cause water overflow, leading to leaks, mold growth, and foundation problems.

Step-by-step instructions:

Set up a ladder safely and have someone spot you if possible.
Remove leaves, sticks, and debris from gutters by hand or with a scoop.
Flush gutters and downspouts with a hose to ensure proper drainage.
Check for loose, damaged, or rusted sections and repair or replace as needed.
Sweep up any debris in drive or other areas after flushing downspouts and before driving through those areas (I seem to always have a surplus of nails come out 😞).
